I am in the process of making
a book with Dutch Folksongs and dance tunes transcribed for clawhammer banjo. I am not quit confident enough to record them yet but maybe later.
I started my own clawhammer page to keep them together and this site is the next step. You can find the music of the songs I am working on, or that I already finishe, here in PDF. Also Audio samples. Most of the last ones are from midifiles, bur I am working on life recordings..
I never really was taught English. Just had a few very simple lessons.I mainly picked it from reading, movies and records.Never learned anything about grammar or spelling,just struggle may way through. We have a word for that, “steenkolenengels” If you translate it literally you would get stone coal english.I think it is the English the dockworkers,working on the coal boats used. You would say pigeon English of Broken English perhaps.
Regardless my limitations I decided to transcribe and translate a few songs in English. Let's call them:
“Dutch Folk songs translated in Double Dutch and broken English”
They are not literal translations. I’l try to convert the text into a singable English version.
If you would like to sing them you can try to sing those with a heavy Dutch. accent, then the bad grammar will serve function. Listen to Rutger Hauer or Jeroen Krabbé in their first movies for examples.
